Invisibility

Quick idea. Should there be a message when someone goes in and out of invisibility? Obviously, if you logged in invisible, there'd be no message. This is when someone goes invisible after being visible, etc.

I think that's a good idea. Also, how bout when people turn publics off to go private for awhile. I usually let people know if I am switching from private to publics and vice versa, but not everyone does.

hmmm, neat idea. but at the same time you don't want the qn's over floaded with stuff like this. you already have the in and out. so yeah. . keep up the good work though. smiles shea

I think it could be an optional idea. Personally i very ocationally use the invisable feature but i think some might argu about their privacy. If we are going to have a message saying when people go invisable we might have a list of invisable user logged in as well.
I think it will take away a bit the point of invisability. People won't be shown but we will know that they are invisable lol.
I don't agree or disagree with it just writing some thoughts. But if it is an optional feature it would be good.
I mean now we might guess when people are invisable if they review profiles or send on the boards but this is a bit different.
So at the moment what happens when people go invisable? Do other users get a loggout message or they just disappear? As i don't have pubblicks on i don't know.

i like it J. you should make that a feature but have the ability to toggle it on and off.
by it i mean the messages.

If you did do this I'd have to agree with the others here and say make it optional to toggle on and off because honestly quick notes just get too full up with stuff in the end.

Mind you, having rethought my initial stance on this, I don't think there should be notifications for people going invisible. The whole point of it is anonymity after all. Maybe you wish for people to think that you've logged out. Telling everybody that you're still there but invisible would some what remove the point from being invisible would it not? LOL. In short forget my previous post. I'm definitely not in favor.

Dan.

not in favor either. lol. it's invisible for a reason.

how about an annoucement when someone becomes visible? i think that would be fair.

Post 10 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Wednesday, 07-Mar-2007 19:37:33

Ok, working these ideas together, if we could make the messages optional, could we make it a choice of the person changing state if they want others to see that they are? then if people want to keep the nvisible feature as it is, they can choose to, with noone any the wiser what they are doing.

I think a message when people come out of invisibility would be okay, but upon reading these other comments, I agree that a message announcing that someone has just gone invisible would be wrong. I have actually gone invisible a few times to get away from someone who is irritating me and I would rather have them think I have logged out. LOL

Post 12 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Wednesday, 07-Mar-2007 19:57:17

or perhaps, if someone goes invisible, it would say actually that they logged out? Or maybe just when someone is visible is the way to go.

Post 13 by shea (number one pulse checking chicky) on Wednesday, 07-Mar-2007 20:28:20

if they want us to know they are coming out from invisibility, couldn't they just say so?

Post 14 by SilkySarah (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 07-Mar-2007 21:38:14

I agree with Dan in post 7.
An announcement would detract from the invisible feature.

Post 15 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Wednesday, 07-Mar-2007 22:24:25

How about having a login announcement appear when someone returns to visibility, and a logout when going invisible?

Post 16 by KC8PNL (The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better.) on Thursday, 08-Mar-2007 1:00:59

Well, it's rather obvious when a person goes invisible as opposed to logging out if they don't log out visibly, because no log out notification follows. And, I'm with Dan's post 7 on this one.

Post 17 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Thursday, 08-Mar-2007 4:41:51

what's the point? I mean, if people want us to know if they're going or coming, they could just say? I'm all for improvements, but this seems like just another unnecessary QN notification.

The invisibility is fine the way it is.

Post 19 by moyzey (i'm posting? huh?) on Thursday, 08-Mar-2007 5:04:10

i don't see the need for notification when someone either goes in or out of invisability. The whole point of invisability is so they can do it without anyone knowing.
Maybe a notification on the turning on and off of public quick notes isa good idea though
